DNC to be honored by the State of Georgia House of Representatives!

We're very pleased to announce that the State of Georgia House of Representatives has invited Drivin N Cryin to appear before the General Assembly on March 10, 2011 to be recognized and commended for their music, charity, service and cultural contributions.

A RESOLUTION

Commending the band Drivin' 'N' Cryin' and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the band Drivin' 'N' Cryin' formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1985 and released their first album, Scarred But Smarter, in 1986 with 688 Records; and

WHEREAS, hailed by critics and fans as one of the greatest live rock bands of all time, Drivin' 'N' Cryin' have released ten albums, including the 1990's gold-certified Fly Me Courageous; and

WHEREAS, Drivin' 'N' Cryin' is one of the original agitators of the southern rock/punk/folk/alt-country genre; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate group that cares about helping others, Drivin' 'N' Cryin' held its first Benefit for the Hopeful in 1987, an annual concert to raise money for Atlanta area homeless organizations; and

WHEREAS, a real rock folk blues band, Drivin' 'N' Cryin' members include Kevn Kinney, Tim Nielsen, Dave V. Johnson, and Mac Carter, and former band members include Jeff Sullivan, Buren Fowler, and Paul Lenz; and

WHEREAS, their songs "Fly Me Courageous," "Build a Fire," and "Turn It Up or Turn It Off" topped the charts and were staples on rock radio stations; and

WHEREAS, Drivin' 'N' Cryin' has amassed an international fan base and following over the last three decades, and the successful music career of this Georgia band is worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Drivin' 'N' Cryin' for 26 years of incredible music, commend their commitment to improving the lives of others, and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the

Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Drivin' 'N' Cryin'.
